Alpine Loop Fall Drive: Early Autumn Colors in the Wasatch

Here we are in early November; I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by us. About a month ago while I had a relatively free day, I took a drive up into the Wasatch Mountains to check out the colors of fall. Down in the valleys everything was still really green. But with the hot, dry summer we had, I was thinking that any colors that popped would be quite short lived.

This will be a really short post; I just wanted to share some of the photos I took that day. It’s too bad I could not have been in Vermont about three weeks later than when I was there. I’m certain from seeing other photos that I would have had some incredible scenery.

This is along the upper part of the Alpine Loop road. As you can see, the autumn colors were just starting, even at this elevation. The better colors were higher on the mountain.
This is a view from the north end of the Mt. Timpanogos Trail parking area. Mt. Timpanogos is the rugged peak in the background.
The colors were popping in these aspen trees in this little valley next to Cascade Springs road of the east side of the Mt. Timpanogos massif.
This shot is looking west toward Mt. Timpanogos from near the bottom of the Cascade Springs road before it winds back up over the next ridge to drop into Midway, Utah.

Here is a bonus image from the Alpine Loop road that I took in October of 2023.

This shot I took on October 22, 2023, and the colors were wonderful that year. Also, traffic was light enough that I was actually able to stand in the road for minute to capture this image on my Nikon Z6ii.

I hope that you have enjoyed these autumn colors from our Wasatch Mountains in Utah. Thank you for visiting my blog, and go enjoy the outdoors!
