Late Autumn in Northern Utah

Autumn colors in the Intermountain West can be fantastic or really ho-hum depending upon the recent precipitation and the temperatures. Sometimes in the mountains here, we will get a early hard freeze before the colors really peak. That just stops the color process cold (sorry for the pun 😉). Then the leaves basically just turn brown and fall off.

But, other times we get lucky with good late summer/early fall precipitation and the temperatures stay a but more moderate. And then – Wow! We get some good colors.

Autumn 2023 was pretty good here. I was busy with work after the Oregon trip, so I didn’t get out there to catch as many colors as I would have liked. But one Sunday in late October, my wife and I took a nice drive up the Alpine Loop (Utah State Route 92), and were able to catch some spots of really nice color.

So, here are a few photos from around northern Utah this autumn.

For some reason this one Aspen tree had retained its bright fall colors while it’s neighbors had all lost theirs.

Later afternoon on the Provo River. I actually took this one in the fall of 2021.

Hopefully these photos can give you a bit of the flavor of our northern Utah environment in the fall. We have a very beautiful state when one can find some quiet time to enjoy nature without the crowds.

Have fun out there, and thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
